The former European Cultural Capital for 2007, alongside Luxemburg, Sibiu confirms its status of a true European city.
In 2009, Sibiu was named alongside Luxemburg Europe's Cultural Capital, being the first city from Europe to receive this distinction. Right before Romania joining the European Union, Sibiu was already being recognised for its european character, in terms of infrastructure, cultural location and spirit. The program Sibiu European Cultural Capital was a real success, but 2007 was not the peak, rather the engine that has helped Sibiu develop and since that it has been going on a positive path in terms of cultural domain, visibility, economic domain, tourism and even in terms of infrastructure and services offered.
During the year, in Sibiu there have been many events, from different cultural areas such as: music, shows, movies, photography, architecture, visual arts, literature, conferences. The public spaces and the theatre rooms are the scene of a true events marathon.

In Sibiu there are more than 700 events happening each year, that bring together more than 1 million viewers.
With a history of over 900 years, Sibiu has become over the past few years a true magnet for the tourists around the world.
